The Final Version is Up!

New features include:

A new moving tank model that drives up and down the playfield, a better texture for the Rocket Toy and (most importantly) a greatly improved backglass with a dot matrix display. Just look at it, isn't it gorgeous? The matrix displays go over those yellow line stripes, for the record.




I'm also very proud of the new tank model. It's pretty adorable. Every time you start the game, the little battle tank drives down to meet you at the flippers, scanning the table with its mounted gun. It also drives up and down every time you enter battle mode.

New Updates Coming!

Yes, it's true. Another version of Rocket Derby is coming out soon.

I always swore I wouldn't become one of those table designers who releases 50 versions of the same table, but this will hopefully be the last update. I'm going to be adding some very small but nifty new features which I'll talk about in my next post. But the biggest things are a new animated model and a new backglass (because the last one had bad resolution).

Look for version 1.2 of the table on Pinsimdb.org and other sites soon, as well as a new post about the updated features!

All About Artifacts!

So what are all those black and red squares lined up on the side of the screen when you play my pinball table? Those are artifact slots. These are added bonuses to make winning races and missions more worth your time.

Any time you beat some kind of challenge, a race, mission, or battle, a green arrow will blink on the Garage lane (very middle of the playfield. The short, tall ramp that takes a sharp turn left). This means you have two minutes to collect an artifact. Make it into the Garage while that arrow is blinking and you'll collect one of the ten artifacts at random.

Collect all 10 artifacts to earn an Extra Ball. This is the only way to get an extra ball on this table! (It's not as hard as you might think. There are 15 missions in all, so you don't even have to beat all of them.)

Each artifact is worth a certain value of dollars (points), lowest to highest from top to bottom.

New Features!

I finally finished the updated version of the Rocket Derby table!

I wasn't going to change anything about the game, but there were some pretty embarrassing glitches that needed to be fixed. So I figured I might as well add more to the table if I was going re-upload it anyway. Make the update worthwhile, know what I mean?

Also, the upper playfields had always been a little boring. In version 1.1 I decided to spruce them up with some extra features to get more points while in battle mode. Originally, when you make it into the garage and go to fight a "Battle Tank" all you had to do was keep hitting the target at the top center. 8 or so times, then you win. But I've added some other fun stuff to toy around with while you're up there. And considering the tiny size of the playfields, it's a pretty easy way to rack up points.


I have some pictures here of the two playfields I changed. It might be a little hard to see but there it is. In the center blue field, the "Blade Tank" I added a rototarget. I've always wanted one of those carousel targets. I thought it especially fit the theme of this table because it reminds me of a rocket base or racing laps. I originally was going to have a rototarget be the rocket ship toy at the bottom of the main playfield, but then I decided to turn that toy into a smaller rocket that takes off into the air after five hits. So I put the rototarget on the blade tank just for fun. Each target has a different reward. You can get 1000-2000 points, raise the jackpot, hold the blade whackers in place for a few seconds, speed up the Rocket Race in the right green lane, and various other surprises. To rotate the target you have to hit the target on the right side.

The left red playfield also has some updates. The laser guns that freeze your flippers can now be hit for points, and there are two more laser guns in the upper corners. When you hit these you get 500 points but your ball will be shot back by kickers. Just a few new additions to keep the game interesting.

The green battle tank had enough going on that it didn't need any new features.

Also, I added something else the table was missing. A spinner! In the Outer Space lane, there is a spinner that will turn "super" for a LOT of points after you beat a mission, race, or battle. You get more points per rotation depending on how much "Power" you have, which is the purple meter. Normally you raise the power by winning Rush Races, which still applies. But now you can also raise the power meter by collecting batteries. A battery target will pop up every time you get the ball into the Mission Hole. Hit it within 60 seconds to collect the battery. 5 will raise the power meter and turn on the super spinner for 60 seconds. This is a GREAT way to get points.

Finally, I tweaked the ball saver to make it harder to keep your ball in play; BUT made the whole table a FOUR ball game. This gives you a better chance of collecting all 10 artifacts for an extra ball, and a better chance of completing all six races, all six missions, or all three battles. Can you complete all 15 challenges!? Probably not, but if you do you'll get 4 million points. Good luck!
